Artificial Turf - Before and After

Even in Tsawwassen, synthetic turf seems to be catching on!

I’ve had synthetic turf in the back yard now for over a year now and I must admit, it has to have been one of the best decisions I made.

There are a number of reasons for deciding to go this route over and above the fact that I have never been much of a fan of yard work.

Despite the fact I always spent time trying to make things look neat and tidy, last year (2010) proved to be most challenging!

I guess much of the ‘challenge’ was due to the fact my children are growing now, and naturally making new friends.

Our house became ‘club med for kids’ and it seemed on any given day we had 4-10 little people running around in the back yard, jumping on the trampoline, swinging on the swings, and when it got really HOT, out came our 8 ft soft-sided paddling pool.

Add dog into the mix and the back yard seemed to be nothing more than a thread-bare dust pit!

Additionally, as you may already know grass never grows under a trampoline… right? So with the exception of a few weeds, we always had this ‘attractive’ looking dirt patch under the trampoline that did ‘nothing’ for our aesthetics!! :-|

Under the swings, were three massive dents in the grass that now resembled three sand pits where the kids had dragged their feet while swinging.

Enter Dog (again) who, by the way took a liking to digging, there was many a pot hole and things were becoming less attractive by the minute!

The dust was so bad, it was impossible to keep anything remotely clean, even the siding turned from white to grey.

To make things even more interesting, when the sides of the pool dipped, my dust pit became a mud pit.

This greatly excited the dog, who would run through it, then decided to jump on the trampoline with the kids.

I need not have to describe that all the kids looked like coal minors after that!

At the end of the day, all kids, dog, and even the house was black. There were times it almost felt like we were walking on a sandy beach ‘inside’ the house!

The final straw came when the dog, covered in mud decided to run through the house, and ‘shake’ in the living room depositing mud from floor to ceiling!

Sadly… at that poing I only had three choices: Pave the back yard ;-) Get the men in the white coats to take me away… OR get Synthetic Turf!

That is where the journey began!

I performed hours of online research and found two or three people around the Vancouver area that sold and installed ‘fake grass’.

I have to admit, I was fairly impressed with most of the samples I saw, and to be honest, even the installation and price of the artificial grass itself was fairly ‘standardly’ priced.

I will be up front and tell you that there is a ‘sticker price’ attached to the synthetic turf…regardless but more on that later on the ‘Costs & Savings” page

After seeing the first samples, I chose to investigate a little further just to perform due diligence. After all, if I was to choose flooring for the inside of the house, I’d want to be sure I’d seen everything… to me the same importance should be considered for the outside.

After surfing aground found a distributor in out of town who …. Coincidentally needed a distributor in BC.

He shipped samples the next day and to be completely honest …I was even more impressed by the quality.

Additionally, since I am an internet marketer by trade, and he needed someone in our area, we figured this might be a mutually beneficial partnership.

After much research and boxes of samples later from a variety of manufacturers, I was armed with the knowledge and experience and Tsawwassen Synthetic Turf was born!

I have learned SO much about artificial turf and now know hands down that it is not all created equal. I’ll write some thoughts and findings to share to help you gain some knowledge on this topic in the near future so you can ensure you make the right choice for your application.

Even though it has been a learning process, I’m pleased to share that I’ve had a lot of fun with the ‘fake grass’ business. It’s amazing how many people even within my neighbourhood are leaning towards the installing it in the not too distant future.

I do realize that at first, it’s a bit of an unusual concept to get your head around and that is exactly why you really should call me to get your questions answered…. Or if you’re local, feel free to come and have a look.

I’ve recently completed the front yard based on the fact that I am so happy with the back yard and even a year later, despite heavy traffic, it still looks pristine.

Additionally, I figured if you were going to call yourself ‘Tsawwassen Synthetic Turf’ you should walk the talk after all!

I know that artificial lawns are not for everyone. Some people enjoy yard work and don’t mind spending hours per week on maintenance and keeping it ‘green’.

With that said, again I have to admit, I am not one of them!

Installing synthetic turf has bar-none been one of the best moves we made. Not only do I now have at least an extra 6 hours per week to spend doing the things I enjoy, there are so many additional benefits to installing synthetic turf over and above having a pristine landscape regardless of the season.

Why Would You Want a “Fake” Lawn?

by Jayne on April 26, 2011

fake lawn, fake grass lawn, fake lawns,

Fake Lawn? Really??

Synthetic Turf has come a long way these last few years, particularly when compared to the old Astro Turf of the past. It resembles natural grass so closely, that nobody would ever know it a “fake lawn” unless you told them!

If you’ve never seen Synthetic Turf, there’s a good chance you’ll surmise that it’s easily detectable. this is not the case. Once you see if for yourself, you’ll notice how the initial stigma immediately disappears!

I’ve also found that others often surmise that the only benefit to installing “fake grass” is purely to avoid the maintenance involved in preserving a lush green landscape. While this bonus cannot be ignored, there are so many additional benefits, hence the reason more and more people are introducing artificial lawns into their household landscapes and why it is becoming so popular and widely accepted.

The benefits of installing synthetic turf to replace natural lawns are as follows:

Environmentally friendly:

  • No Watering required! Even with the watering restrictions of this last few years, it is still estimated that if the average household following a watering schedule of approximately 8 hours twice per week, consumes enough water at the end of the season to fill two average sized swimming pools.

  • No Fertilizing or pesticides. (Ever!) Therefore preventing unnecessary chemicals from leaching into the ground.

  • No fumes from Gas lawnmowers or weed eaters, which saves air quality.

Virtually Maintenance Free:

  • Safe for pets and easier to maintain. Most dogs have no desire to dig. Furthermore “cleaning up” after Fido is much easier than natural grass.

  • Not affected by snow, rain, hot sun.

  • Always immaculately manicured and stays clean.

**Additionally, it doesn’t attract insects such as mosquito’s – which in itself is a obvious added bonus!

Our high quality synthetic turf has a 10- year guarantee, yet it is estimated to have a life span of 25 to 30 years.
